Lentil Dahl

I love dinners that take very little time and can sit before you eat.


Serves 4-6


  • 300g red lentils


  • 1tsp turmeric


  • 2tbsp oil


  • 3 onions, diced


  • 1tsp mustard seeds


  • 1tsp cumin seeds


  • 10 cardamon pods


  • 1.5tsp garam masala


  • 4 garlic cloves, grated


  • 1 thumb ginger, grated


  • 400ml stock


  • 100g spinach


  • ┬Ż lemon juiced


  1. Put the lentils in a pot with 1ltr of water, turmeric and some salt. Bring to the boil and then simmer for 15mins.
  2. Meanwhile, heat the oil in a pot, cook the onion, mustard seeds, cumin and cardamom pods until the onion is soft.
  3. Add the ginger, garlic and garam masala and stir.
  4. Pour in the stock and simmer until the lentils are ready. Pour the mushy lentil mix into the onions and simmer for a further 15mins. Serve with salad and flat breads.
